My yoga and fitness training has brought to light the truth that sometimes massage and Western medicine is not enough to relieve pain patterns. Often is the case that muscles/fascia hurt because they are weak, not overused.
As the client, pain relief requires courage to stay present and to heal the body holistically. And sometimes, you may need exercises to help your body recover or make uncomfortable lifestyle changes.
If you’re not finding the results that you want from western medicine or massage, I highly recommend also utilizing other traditional/alternative therapies such as yoga, chiropractic, naturopathic, or functional medicine. True healing takes effort, consistency & commitment. It is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding and honorable things you can offer yourself and your body.
My recent Yoga Teacher Training on Equity in Yoga re-inspired the mantra and declaration that Yoga is for EVERY type of BODY, regardless of ability. With proper guidance, coaching, props, and attitude, yoga can help build strength, mobility, flexibility, and stability with self-compassion and consistency.
To me, inclusive yoga is not just about the asanas or poses, as Western Culture so adamantly focuses on. In fact, there are 8 limbs in yoga, and asana or movement practice is just one. Just one. Just as important are the practices to focus the mind, calm the nervous system, and breath. Yes. Breath. It seems so simple, but in massage school I remember it being said that he most dysfunctional movement pattern found in people is breathing.
Many of my clients have health issues inhibiting strenuous exercises shown by Instagram models online, or many typical fitness classes offered at mainstream gyms.
Many have expressed interest in affordable and accessible yoga classes.
As such, I’d like to share some of the opportunities for such classes available, now in the Grand Valley.
